LCMS STEWARDSHIP MINISTRY March 19th – Lent 4 (Laetare)

John 6:5 – “Jesus said to Philip, ‘Where are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?’” Of course Jesus knows the answer to that question — He knows how He means to care for His people. The Lord provided, and He still provides. This knowledge frees us for generosity without fear.

LCMS STEWARDSHIP MINISTRY March 12th – Lent 3 (Oculi)

Luke 11:21–22 – “When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are safe; but when one stronger than he attacks him and overcomes him, he takes away his armor in which he trusted and divides his spoil.” Jesus has disarmed Satan in a most unusual way: He has disarmed him by allowing Satan to cast all his weapons into Jesus. Satan has nothing left to attack us with — he spent it all on Jesus. And now Jesus is our stronger man. He guards and keeps us and ours. We have none to fear.

LCMS STEWARDSHIP MINISTRY March 5 – Lent 2 (Reminiscere)

Matthew 15:27 – “Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.” These are the words of faith, for faith means receiving what God gives. And God has given us so much more than just the crumbs that fall from the table — He has given us life, salvation, body and soul, eyes and ears, possessions and income. That’s where our stewardship starts: with faith in the God who is the greatest Giver.

From Pastor Mandile…

LCMS STEWARDSHIP MINISTRY Matthew 4:7 – “Jesus said to him, ‘Again it is written…’” Jesus defeats Satan in our place, not by using His power as God, but by His perfect obedience in His perfect humanity. Jesus defeats Satan not by miracles, but by quoting the Scriptures and living according to them. This should cause us great joy for two reasons. First, we see Jesus win the victory for us. Second, here Jesus shows us how to stand in that victory: on the Word of God alone.

From Pastor Mandile…

LCMS STEWARDSHIP MINISTRY Luke 18:35 – “As he drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging.” The last known words of Martin Luther were found scratched on a slip of paper next to his death bed: “We are all beggars; this is true.” All that we have is a gift of God. We are all beggars before Him. Knowing this leaves us with nothing but thankfulness in our hearts.

INDIVIDUAL CUPS FOR THE LORD’S SUPPER…This Sunday, February 19th, you will notice a new setup for the Lord’s Supper. The individual cups will no longer be on the table on your way up to the altar. Instead, the individual cups will be distributed to you by one of the elders once you have come up and knelt at the altar rail. This change is for two reasons. First, we want to be hospitable to our guests who do not know our Communion practice. Second, we want to serve those who have difficulty walking by bringing Christ’s Blood to them when they are already at the altar rail. Pastor and the Board of Elders have prayed and discussed this change together. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to Pastor Mandile or one of the Elders.

From Pastor Mandile…

LCMS STEWARDSHIP MINISTRY Luke 8:11 – “The seed is the word of God.” It all starts with the Word. “In the beginning … the Word was with God” (John 1:1). “He saved us by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit” (Titus 3:5). “The word of our God will stand forever” (Is. 40:8). We never outgrow our need to hear the Word of God. We never achieve such greatness that we don’t need the blessings of God’s Word. Rather, the Christian life is one of always striving to conform our lives to God’s Word by living out the truth of our Baptism: that we are God’s children by the power of his Word.

From Pastor Mandile…

LCMS STEWARDSHIP MINISTRY Matthew 20:9 – “And when those hired about the eleventh hour came, each of them received a denarius.” Behold the generosity of God! He gives out of His grace, not what we deserve to receive. Living a godly life means living in imitation of God — and surely one of the foundations of God’s being is His generosity.

From Pastor Mandile…

LCMS STEWARDSHIP MINISTRY Matthew 17:8 – “And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.” Jesus is enough. Moses and Elijah point to Jesus and are happy to fade into the background. With our eyes focused on Him and Him alone, the rest of our lives come into focus. He is primary, all else secondary. When that order is right in our lives, things truly fall into place.

From Pastor Mandile……

LCMS STEWARDSHIP MINISTRY Matthew 8:8 – “But the centurion replied, ‘Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed.’” The Word of the Lord is powerful and effective. What God says, goes. “Let there be light” (Gen. 1:3). And there was light. His Word is still effective and creative for us: “This is my body, which is given for you” (Luke 22:19). “Your sins are forgiven” (Matt. 9:2, Luke 5:20, etc.). This is why it is no burden for us to live according to the Word of God: we know that His Word is always aimed at our blessing.
